The front of Sue’s Produce. I buy a whole lot of fruits and vegetables here, particularly in the winter when the farmers’ markets aren’t as exuberant. Tonight I picked up a red cabbage, one carrot, an orange, a lime and a pack of freshly made corn tortillas for $5.30. The cabbage, lime and carrot went into a version of this slaw.
If we ever move away from Center City Philadelphia, this store will be one of the top five things I will miss most. In addition to the fact that their prices are really good and the produce is wonderfully fresh, if you’re short a dollar or two, they’ll just tell you to pay them the next time you come in. I find that kind of friendly trust and familiarity to be in dwindling supply in these times and so appreciate having it at this little market.
